Dutch GPS manufacturer TomTom today at the IFA trade show announced a partnership with BMW that will offer a semi integrated PND (equivalent to a GO LIVE 1005) as an option in selected models of BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, X1 and X3 cars.
The device will be distributed and installed by dealerships for new and existing BMW car models and will cost around €500. The device is already available this week at some dealerships in Germany and will be made available in the rest of Europe.
A specially-designed mount attaches the 5-inch touch screen TomTom device onto the dashboard of the car.
The device integrates with BMW’s car entertainment system via the active dock. Navigation directions and hands-free phone calls will be given over the car’s speakers and temporarily mute any other audio sources to ensure navigation instructions as well as phone conversations are heard loud and clear.
