While Google is pushing hard Android Auto towards car manufacturers, its Android licensee Samsung is playing its own game to differentiate from the search giant.
At the IFA trade show in Berlin the device manufacturer demonstrated Car Mode for Galaxy, its own smartphone interface dedicated to the driver. Like Android Auto or CarPlay it provides with large button the key services that can be used safely by a driver: essentially maps, music, phone calls.
Car Mode for Galaxy works with Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones in any car supporting the MirrorLink standard, or as a standalone app in cars without MirrorLink.
Samsung also partnered with Volkswagen to make a dedicated Car Mode app – called Car-Net E-Remote – for the vehicles of the German brand.
This interesting announcement might be the beginning of an alliance between car makers and Samsung to balance the expected weight of Android Auto in the marketplace.
