German navigation and mapping app vendor Skobbler today announced the availability of their mapping application ForeverMap 2 for the NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color e-readers from Barnes & Nobles.
The free application includes map data from the Openstreetmap community, route guidance, Wi-Fi positioning and local search. Interestingly, the color theme chosen by Skobbler for this app is completely mimicking Google Maps to a point that is quite surprising (see picture) for Openstreetmap supporters.
A premium version, ForeverMap 2 PRO, is also available for $4.99, and provides unlimited access to downloadable maps for offline use.
According to market research firm IHS iSuppli, Barnes & Nobles sold 3.2 million NOOK Tablets in 2011, which represented 5 percent market share worldwide (NOOK is only sold in the United States).
