New Socialight: Ning + Location?

New Socialight: Ning + Location?
Last week New-York-based location-based service and community provider Socialight re-launched itself as a kind of Ning for LBS, allowing small organizations to create their own community with a LBS spin on a mobile and web- based location-aware platform.

Socialight attaches multimedia content and local social interaction to real-world places. Location-based content is added by individuals or professionals and shared socially. With this new platform anyone can create networks which are accessible via the web, a WAP site or an iPhone app.

The free package includes the creation of unlimited notes with text, images and audio (video is limited to the enterprise version). The administrator of the platform has a WYSIWYG iPhone App editor and can customize the service with its own community’s iconography and naming convention.

This new platform illustrate the growing trend towards the simplification of location-based services - once in the hands of mapping experts and mobile software developers - into DIY applications. In the same field we can find Scvngr and GPS Mission (location-based gaming) or ShoutEm (location-based social networking).
