Navionics Releases iPhone App for Skiers
Electronics charts producer Navionics has just released a new iPhone application that targets skiers in Europe and in the United States. This application offers maps of ski resorts with Points of Interest (ski rental, ticket offices, lodges, etc), Resort trails, lifts and slopes. Once the ski resort has been downloaded there is no need for cellular coverage to use the application.
iPod controls have been also integrated into the application to allow skiers to listen to their music while using the application. The software records tracks of each run with related information such as lengths, average speed, maximum speed, duration and vertical descent. Tracks can be played back and enriched with geotagged pictures and videos and shared via Facebook and twitter. The application with US resorts costs $4.99 and the Alps region is €4.99.
